Yogi Adityanath calls for developing ‘state capital region’ on the lines of Delhi-NCR

UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday called for a ‘UP State Capital Region’ to be developed on the lines of the national capital region (NCR) in order to tackle increasing pressure of immigrants into Lucknow and neighboring cities which is also giving rise to unorganized development in many parts.

The CM has suggested cities adjoining Lucknow like Unnao, Sitapur, Raebareli, Barabanki, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat to be included in the propaed ‘UP SCR’.

Yogi issued the direction in a virtual meeting with officers of housing and urban planning department, housing development boards and development authorities of all cities.

“Due to coordinated efforts, Lucknow is being equipped with all the modern urban facilities found in a metropolitan city. People from many cities are coming into the city to make it into their permanent base. This is also creating population pressure on adjoining cities which is also giving rise to complaints of unorganized development,” Yogi said. “Considering future needs in such circumstances, a state capital region must be developed on the lines of the NCR,” he said, asking officers to conduct relevant research and consultations on all aspects and make a detailed plan regarding the same.
