As torrential downpour continues to create havoc in Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday night said the government has decided to release Rs 300 crore to manage the flood situation in the city.
The chief minister chaired a meeting with senior ministers and officials in the night to take stock of the rain and flood situation in the state, especially the capital city, and the damages caused.
The state government has decided to release Rs 600 crore to manage the rain and flood situation across the state. T0 restore damaged infrastructure like roads, electric poles, transformers, schools etc, Rs 300 crore has been kept for Bengaluru alone, Bommai said.
He also pointed out that Rs 664 is already available with deputy commissioners of various districts, while separate Rs 500 crore has already been sanctioned for building infrastructure.

China scrambles to step up relief, 50,000 people relocated after Sichuan quake
Over 50,000 people have been relocated to safer locations after damages were caused to buildings due a powerful earthquake of 6.8-magnitude that jolted Luding County in China’s southwest Sichuan province which claimed the lives of 46 people so far. As of Monday night, 16 people were missing and over 50 injured, Wang Feng, deputy director of the Sichuan provincial emergency management department told a media briefing in Chengdu.
Typhoon leaves 20,000 homes without power in South Korea
Thousands of people were forced to evacuate in South Korea as Typhoon Hinnamnor made landfall in the country’s southern regions on Tuesday, unleashing fierce rains and winds that destroyed trees and roads, and left more than 20,000 homes without power. A 25-year-old man went missing after falling into a rain swollen stream in the southern city of Ulsan, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, which didn’t immediately report more casualties. Fires were reported at a major steel plant operated by POSCO in the southern city of Pohang, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether they were caused by the storm.
Police obtain CCTV footage of Mistry’s car moments before crash
Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district have obtained the CCTV footage of the ill-fated Mercedes car in which Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons, was travelling to Mumbai, shortly before it crashed, killing him and his friend, an official said on Monday. The footage shows the car passing through the Dapchari check post in Palghar district at 2.21 pm on Sunday, he said. The car hit a road divider on a bridge over the Surya river on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway at around 3 pm, killing Mistry (54) and his friend Jahangir Pandole on the spot. The police team probing the crash are examining the CCTV footage for further leads, the official said.
German president apologizes for 1972 Olympic attack failures
Germany’s president apologised Monday for multiple failures by his country before, during and after the 1972 attack on the Munich OIympics as he joined his Israeli counterpart and relatives of the 11 Israeli athletes killed by Palestinian militants at the games 50 years ago.

‘India can do a lot to help Bangladesh cope with issue of Rohingya refugees’
Visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said India can do a lot to help her country deal with the issue of Rohingya refugees and that both countries can work jointly to rejuvenate the cross-border rivers. She made the comments during an informal interaction with a group of reporters on the sidelines of a reception hosted for her by the Bangladesh High Commission.
“India is a big country. It can do a lot,” Hasina said when asked what role India can play on the issue of Rohingya refugees.
Over 10 lakh Rohingya refugees are currently living in Bangladesh after fleeing from Myanmar’s Rakhine.
Maharashtra sees 549 COVID-19 cases, three deaths
Maharashtra on Monday reported 549 fresh COVID-19 cases and three fatalities, taking the tally to 81,05,403 and the toll to 1,48,267, a state health department official said. A day before the state had reported 1,205 cases.
57,420 idols of Lord Ganesh immersed in Mumbai in two days
A total of 57,420 idols of Lord Ganesh were immersed in the sea and artificial lakes in Mumbai in two days, a civic official said on Monday. On the sixth day of the Ganesh festival on Monday, 26,055 idols were immersed till 9 PM. No untoward incident was reported, he said.
